I Fell in Love with "Breakaway (Alagwa)" and star Jericho Rosales, director Ian Lorenos! Check Out My Fun "Breakaway" Piece! 
Director Ian Lorenos and actor Jericho Rosales visited the Southern California desert for the 24th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. I'm proud to say that the city I live in hosts one of the most prominent film festivals in the world!
Lorenos and Rosales were in town for their fantastic indie, "Breakaway (Alagwa)." The film has been getting major awards buzz for its indelible performances (both Rosales and the child actor who plays his son, Bugoy Carino), well-written script (Lorenos wrote and directed the film), and intriguing plotline.
It was a pleasure meeting both star and director for one-on-one interviews. They both consider "Breakaway" an important film in their respective careers.

Jessica Chastain, considered an Oscar-frontrunner for Best Actress ("Zero Dark Thirty") this awards season, can now add the title Box-Office Queen. Her Universal horror flick, "Mama," topped the box-office weekend with $28.1 million, and blasted Arnold Schwarzenegger's "The Last Stand" which flopped at No. 10 with, gasp, $6.3 million! Even the lukewarm actioner, "Broken City," starring Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe easily beat Schwarzenegger and debuted at No. 6 with $9 million.
Previous weekend's box-office champ, Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" also starring Chastain, fell to No.2 with $17.6 million.
In the international market, "Django Unchained" was the leader of the pack with $48.1 million, followed by "Life of Pi" with $20.7 million, and then "Les Miserables" at No. 3 with $19.4 million.
Here's the estimated Top 10 box-office films in the U.S. market for weekend of January 18:

Sure, the Academy Awards is just a few sleeps away but many award-giving bodies are still handing out trophies. Most recently, the London Critics' Circle gave out their kudos with "Amour," "Rust and Bone," and "The Imposter" taking home the major awards.
In the acting categories, Joaquin Phoenix beat out rival Daniel Day-Lewis ("Lincoln") for his brave performance in "The Master." Philip Seymour Hoffman was also honored from the movie with a Best Supporting Actor win, while Emmanuelle Riva took home the Best Actress award for her memorable performance in "Amour."
The only one constant winner during our trek to the Oscars is Anne Hathaway, also taking home the Best Supporting Actress trophy for "Les Miserables."

Two big films this weekend, we have the horror flick, “Mama” and “The Last Stand.” In Universal’s “Mama,” Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty”) stars as Annabel. She and her boyfriend, Lucas (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau) have been frantically searching for his nieces, Victoria and Lilly, who vanished from their suburban neighborhood without a trace. They find them alive, living in a cabin, but when they take them home, they may have taken an unwelcome presence the kids call Mama.
In “The Last Stand,” Arnold Schwarzenegger is back in full leading man role as a Sheriff of a small border town. He will soon meet his match with the fiery, dangerous drug kingpin, Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega).
