
Watching “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” is like visiting a long, lost friend. It’s fun to see your pal once again, but there’s a bittersweet sadness to it all. Deep inside, you know that you and your friend will never be the same as you both were many years ago.
Sitting inside a theater in the world-famous Paramount Studios, I was giddy, nervous, and hopeful that the new “Indiana Jones” movie would be good. As soon as I saw the Lucasfilm brand followed by the 1980s-era Paramount logo, I knew I was entering familiar territory.
But then, something was amiss. Director Steven Spielberg and company always play with Paramount’s MajesticMountain logo. The first shot always dissolves to a similar looking backdrop such as a mountain in “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” But in “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” the Paramount logo dissolves to an itsy-bitsy mole hill.
