In “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” director Guillermo del Toro pays homage to the classic Universal Pictures monsters by showing a clip of “Frankenstein” in one of Hellboy’s (Ron Perlman) TV sets. Del Toro succeeds in painting our favorite red superhero with the same pathos as Frankenstein – he’s a tortured do-gooder.
