"The Hurt Locker" won top honors at the Cinema Audio Society's 46th Annual CAS Awards. The fantastic Iraq-war drama took home the outstanding achievement in sound mixing award beating "Avatar," "District 9," "Star Trek," and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
Uh-oh, will "The Hurt Locker" beat "Avatar" at the Oscars for best sound editing and best sound mixing? Stay tuned...

The beautiful black and white cinematography by Austrian Christian Berger for "The White Ribbon" won the American Society of Cinematographers' feature competition at the 24th Annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards.
"The White Ribbon's" Berger beat tough competitors such as Barry Ackroyd for "The Hurt Locker," Mauro Fiore for "Avatar," Robert Richardson for "Inglourious Basterds," and Dion Beebe for "Nine."
"The White Ribbon," also nominated for foreign language film at this year's Oscars, is the second black-and-white film to win the ASC award. In 2002, Roger Deakins won the trophy for "The Man Who Wasn't There."
But I have a sneaky feeling that "The White Ribbon" will not win best cinematography at the Academy Awards. Why? Because when Deakins won the ASC award in 2002, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings," shot by Andrew Lesnie, won the Oscar for cinematography that year.
So "Avatar" still has a strong chance of winning the Oscar trophy.

I took part in the "Greenberg" press junket in NY, and I spoke with Greta Gerwig (the heart of the film), Rhys Ifans (the brain of the film), and Ben Stiller (the glue that keeps on ungluing himself -- brilliant performance by Stiller!). You have to watch "Greenberg" when it opens on March 26 -- Writer/Director Noah Baumbach ("The Squid and the Whale") is a keen observer of everyday life, plus the movie is a love letter to Los Angeles minus its obvious Hollywood trappings.
I will post the video of my interviews soon, but Stiller was stoic in person with a dry wit, but I made him laugh, you'll see. Towards the end of our interview, I managed to sneak in the all-important question -- "Is it true you're working on the script for 'Zoolander 2' now and why?" To which he said, "Yes, it's confirmed, Justin Theroux from 'Tropic Thunder' is collaborating on the script with me."
And while he's telling me these words, you could see a glimmer in his eye deep inside that Derek Zoolander is trying to get out...brilliant, alive!
And I said, great, he and I can sashay together! Laughter ensued...

I interviewed Mike Vogel for his upcoming funny film "She's Out of My League" due March 12, and I just couldn't resist to ask him about "Captain America." (I'll post my interviews as soon as I get out of this messy New York weather...it's Armageddon here! "The Day After Tomorrow" re-enactment!!!)
You see, Vogel is one of the many hopefuls to play Steve Rogers aka Captain America. (See all the other "Captain America" contenders by clicking here)
So when I asked Vogel about the screen test, he said, "I don't want to jinx it, but yes, I'm very excited to test for the film."
So the actor, who has the aw-shucks charm, and good-looking All-American boy qualities in person, opened up about the long, arduous audition process to hopefully land one of the most coveted gigs in Hollywood for young actors right now!
Let's keep our fingers crossed for him, meanwhile, maybe if we make "She's Out of My League" a hit, Marvel Studios may consider Vogel!
