Judging from the picture, is Angela Bassett going to wear a fat suit to play the character of Dr. Amanda Waller? In all of the character's comic book incarnations, she's always been portrayed as a heavy set woman, so I'm just wondering, or will director Martin Campbell make the Waller character svelte and slinky like Bassett? Either or, the addition of the actress to the "Green Lantern" cast is great news!
In the DC Comics mythology, Waller is a government agent who oversees the Suicide Squad, a group of captured super villains who perform tasks in exchange for freedom. So Waller is sorta like a prison warden
I suspect Campbell and company will introduce Waller's character in the film, and perhaps, develop her mythology and her relationship with the Suicide Squad in later "Green Lantern" sequels, because you know, there will be sequels, right?
Bassett joins cast members Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, and Tim Robbins in New Orleans where "Green Lantern" is currently being filmed.

Brad Bird may soon jump into live action! The director of "The Iron Giant," "The Incredibles," and "Ratatouille," is one of the few directors being considered for "Mission: Impossible IV" according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This is exciting! I've always regarded Bird as a great storyteller who knows how to mix action and emotion perfectly!
Tom Cruise and producer J.J. Abrams are busy looking for the perfect director for the fourth installment. Cruise will reprise his role as secret agent Ethan Hunt for the Paramount film set to open May 27, 2011. Production is set to begin this summer.
The other contenders to direct are "Zombieland's" Ruben Fleischer, and Edgar Wright ("Hot Fuzz").
If Bird is picked, "M:I-4" will be his first live-action film. He has been developing "1906" (about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake) as his possible live-action debut but according to THR, it is rumored to be stalled because of budgetary reasons. (My Disney source is still adamant in telling me that Bird is the creative force behind "Maleficent" -- the retelling of Sleeping Beauty from the evil queen's point of view that has Angelina Jolie being mentioned as a possible star)
The plot for "M:I-4" is being kept in tight wraps but Abrams worked on the story with screenwriters Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum.

I’ve always believed that Ben Stiller has the making of a great dramatic actor. The star has shown dramatic flair in films like “Your Friends and Neighbors” and “Permanent Midnight.”
(Click to see my exclusive interviews with Ben Stiller, Greta Gerwig, and Rhys Ifans)
Stiller, in his comedic films, often portrayed bruised characters for laughs. In “Greenberg,” the actor plays yet another battered down character, only this time, his performance is at once funny, touching, and poignant. Read More...

We exclusively broke this story back in May, Disney wanting to make a film about the evil queen from the 1959 animated classic "Sleeping Beauty." When we first told you about this story, Angelina Jolie was being talked about as a possible star to don the witchy outfit of "Maleficent." (See our original story "EXCLUSIVE: Angelina Jolie to Star as Disney's Greatest Villain Maleficent!")
Now, The Hollywood Reporter learned that "Alice in Wonderland" screenwriter Linda Woolverton has been hired by Disney to pen the project about the mistress of all evil!
Woolverton previously wrote 1991's "Beauty and the Beast" and 1994's "The Lion King" for Disney.
But I don't know why everyone is saying Tim Burton may direct! According to my super-reliable Disney source, the idea of retelling "Sleeping Beauty" from the point of view of Maleficent came from Brad Bird, the fantastic writer/director of "The Iron Giant," "The Incredibles," and "Ratatouille" among others.
Sure, Burton has a great, profitable relationship with Disney, but so does Bird. If the studio is thinking of an edgy but family-friendly film (a Burton territory) look no further than "The Incredibles!" Bird made an excellent family-friendly film about a superhero family questioning their superhero morals!
I'm voting for Bird to tackle this project! For more on the "Maleficent" project, click here.

First, there was that crazy talk back in February that Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel would like to play "Laverne & Shirley" in a rumored big-screen remake! (See 'Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel for "Laverne and Shirley" Movie?')
Now, TV Guide Magazine has caught up with Garry Marshall (director of "Valentine's Day" and "Laverne & Shirley" producer) at the 18th Annual Night At Sardi's Fundraiser for Alzheimer's where the director was honored (his mother died of the disease). Marshall confirmed that Jamie Foxx is writing the script for the "Laverne & Shirley" movie! Say what?
The last project Foxx has written was for the TV show "From G's to Gents" (he's the creator of the show) although the actor wrote some of the most memorable "In Living Color" bits. Still, Foxx has not been credited in writing a movie, so can he give "Laverne & Shirley" justice?
Apparently, Marshall seemed to think so. The director revealed to TV Guide that, “Jamie and I are trying to do it...he’s writing it. It’s a whole different modern day take on how they came up on the streets during difficult times. Laverne would be this very tough girl with a big ‘L’ tattooed on her arm. Jennifer Garner would play Laverne and Jessica Biel would play Shirley.”
Marshall added that the original sitcom stars, Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams, will have roles in the film but Foxx asked him not to reveal anything yet.
