Would You Watch "Space Invaders" the Movie?

First there's Fox's plans to make a movie version of Missile Command, then Universal's grandiose schemes to turn Asteroids into a big screen project, now comes word that Warner Bros. is interested to turn Space Invaders, the granddaddy of all video games into an out-of-this world adventure!

The Los Angeles Times is reporting:

Warner Bros. is negotiating to acquire feature rights to the landmark shooter from Taito, the Japanese company that originally manufactured the game. If the rights issues all work out, the project would bring on Hollywood fixtures Mark Gordon, Jason Blum and Guymon Casady as producers.

What's next? Pac-Man?

Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov to Hunt Vampires with Abraham Lincoln

I thoroughly enjoy Seth Grahame-Smith's novels. He loves marrying genres to come up with truly original books. His "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" novel, about, you guessed it, a mixture of Jane Austen and zombies, is set to be adapted by Lionsgate with Natalie Portman attached to star. (See Natalie Portman to Star in "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies")

Now, our friends from DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com told us that directors Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov ("Wanted") will produce a movie adaptation of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."

In the novel, Lincoln's mother was killed by a supernatural creature, so it became his lifelong passion to kill vampires and their slave-owning helpers. The beloved U.S. president metamorphosizes into an axe-throwing vampire hunter.

No word yet on who's directing or writing the screenplay. But who should star as the 16th U.S. president who can kick major vampire booty?

"Alice in Wonderland" Movie Review -- How Many Kisses Do Johnny Depp and Tim Burton Get?

When I was a little kid, I could never fully enjoy the animated Disney movie “Alice in Wonderland” for I thought the theme and the characters were too mature for me. Now that I’m a grownup, director Tim Burton’s version, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic, did not completely satisfy me either. I find the new 3-D event catering to its young audience.

Burton has never been a solid storyteller in my book, but he’s a visionary and a great actor’s director. That’s probably why “Alice in Wonderland” is Johnny Depp’s seventh collaboration with him. Burton knows how to get his actors to emote. Read More...

"Death Race 2" Will Not Be Seen in Theaters!

"Death Race" 2, the prequel to Universal's 2008 Jason Statham film, is shooting in South Africa right now, but it's going straight to DVD under the studios DVD Originals banner.

When I interviewed the 2008 "Death Race" cast and director Paul W.S. Anderson at Comic Con (check my complete interviews right here), Anderson revealed to me some plans for a sequel.

Apparently, those plans have been scrapped for a straight-to-DVD prequel.

Sean Bean is set to star opposite Luke Goss ("Hellboy 2: The Golden Army") along with Lauren Cohan, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo and Frederick Koehler. Anderson is producing and Roel Reine is directing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "the prequel is serving as the origin story for the character named Frankenstein, a convicted cop killer (Goss) in a declining American empire where a racing reality show is about to be born in the country's corrupt prison system."

So Statham, Joan Allen, and Ian McShane are not returning.

Honestly? I don't care. I still love the original 1975 cult film from director Paul Bartel, and starring David Carradine, Simone Griffeth and Sylvester Stallone.

Watch that instead!
