As if the sight of Sylvester Stallone in the forgettable 1995 "Judge Dredd" is not enough, along came news that DNA Films, Reliance Big Entertainment, and IM Global are jointly financing a bigger, better "Judge Dredd," in 3D, of course!
The film will be directed by Pete Travis ("Vantage Point") from a script by Alex Garland ("Sunshine," "28 Days Later," author of "The Beach").
Deadline Hollywood exclusively learned that DNA's Andrew Macdonald "went back to the franchise’s DNA to completely overhaul the film and bring it back to its origins as the UK comic created by John Wagner and illustrated by Carlos Ezquerra. Dredd is set in a futuristic world filled with violence, and the character is empowered to act as judge, jury and executioner."
As I've said before, a good film begins with a good script, and Garland, so far, has a good reputation as a scriptwriter.

As we told you in January, Ron Howard is set to direct Vince Vaughn in a comedy about cheating from Universal Pictures! The film, previously called "Cheaters," is getting ready to go on production in Chicago in June.
Now, Channing Tatum will be joining the all-star cast of Vaughn, Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly, and Winona Ryder. The "Dear John" actor will play Ryder's rough and tough lover.
The script, written by Allan Loeb, tells the story of two best friends (James and Vaughn). Ryder plays James' wife who's been cheating with Tatum. So upon discovery of Ryder's infidelity, Vaughn confronts her directly and must decide whether or not he will tell his friend.

"Iron Man 2" enjoyed a super-heroic opening, earning $133.6 million domestically. Starring Robert Downey Jr. as billionaire-turned-super hero Tony Stark, the sequel beat the original film's $98.6 million debut in 2008 and is now holding the record of having the fifth-biggest opening weekend.
