I give studios quotes right after watching an upcoming film. Some of my quotes are half-hearted but they're all coming from my heart -- I stand by each and everyone of them!
So last Friday, a friend of mine was reading the Los Angeles Times, and lo and behold, he saw my name on a full-page ad that Universal Pictures bought for "Death Race."
So he excitedly text me, and I excitedly grabbed a copy of the paper! I was proud EVEN THOUGH Universal used my real name, and not my affable moniker, Manny the Movie Guy!
Oh well, at least my name's out there, and it made my mommy happy
I said, "Death Race" is a thrill-a-minute action adventure, and Jason Statham is Hollywood's new action hero.
And guess what? I truly meant those words, and oh yeah, they were not half-heartedly written

"Tropic Thunder" survived an onslaught of new films to come out on top for the second week in a row! 5 new movies tried but failed to grab the box-office crown from the current box-office king. Among them, "Death Race," "Hamlet 2," "The Rocker," "The House Bunny," and "The Longshots."
But none of those films managed to topple the comedy flick starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr.
"Tropic Thunder" made $16.1 million bucks while the No. 2 film, "House Bunny" raked in $15.1 million. "Death Race" finished third with an estimated $12.3 million box-office take.

So, "The Dark Knight" made a gazillion bucks for Warner Bros., so the studio is revamping their other famous DC Comics franchise, "Superman."
Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov apparently thinks that turning our favorite flying friend into a dark character ala "The Dark Knight" can mean big box-office bonanza!
WRONG! Don't these studio folks remember how that technique didn't quite work for our friendly neighborhood Spidey in the last flick?
What are they going to do? Make a Bizarro movie instead?
Oh well, just because the last "Superman Returns" didn't make a billion bucks doesn't mean it's bad either!!!

Tom Cruise, in his never-ending quest to find the next chapter of his career, is joining the comic book bandwagon and is said to be interested in the Ed Brubaker masterpiece, "Sleeper."
Oh, and he's tagging along with "Spider-Man's" Sam Raimi in his quest!
Look, I've always suspected Cruise has the making of a great character actor (just look at his scene-stealing turn in "Tropic Thunder"), so, perhaps, a layered character that can only sadly be found in comic book nowadays (and books as well), maybe the key to his career rejuvenation!
