Rapunzel, the Grimm fairy tale princess famous for her 70 feet of golden hair, is joining the ranks of the Disney Princess merchandise because she's getting her own movie, thank you very much!
And Mandy Moore is set to let her hair down for she's the chosen one to voice the princess in the planned Walt Disney Pictures Digital 3-D animated musical-action-adventure "Rapunzel."
Joining Moore is Zachary Levi, star of NBC's "Chuck." He will be the voice of the dashing bandit and Rapunzel's love interest. The plot revolves around the teenage princess running away from her captor with the bandit on her side.
Byron Howard and Nathan Greno are set to direct, and Roy Conli will be producing. The great Alan Menken ("Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin") will compose the film's music.
Once upon a time for a very long time, Disney has been trying to make a film about Rapunzel. The studio even unsuccessfully developed a project titled "Rapunzel Unbraided." But not until John Lasseter came aboard as chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios has the project been given new life.
"Rapunzel" is set to open during the holiday of 2010.

There are lots of Disney news this morning because John Lasseter was in London's Leicester Square giving details of upcoming Disney/Pixar productions. One of them is "Cars 2" set to open summer of 2011.
The sequel will focus on Larry the Cable Guy's Mater.
Empireonline is saying:
The story sees Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), his pit team and new pit boss Mater head around the world for the Race of Champions, to take place in five different countries and involve the champions of different disciplines like Formula One and rally driving. First up is a race in Tokyo, starting at Mount Fuji and heading downtown; then there's a German race through the Black Forest; then "Porto Corsa" in Italy, which is based partly on the Monte Carlo Grand Prix; then a 24-hour race around Paris (so somewhat like Le Mans then) and finally a thrilling climax in London, approaching Buckingham Palace (where the guards appear to be Land Rovers).
Furthermore, Mater will be involved in a case of mistaken identity but will end up saving the life of a British secret agent called Finn McMissile, an Aston Martin lookalike. Mater's plotline is a spy thriller that will conclude at the Buckingham Palace.
Empireonline further revealed that, "Along the way there are towtruck-abroad pictures to be taken at the Oktoberfest in Germany (where Mater wears "Materhosen") and harassing the aforementioned Palace Guards."
"Ratatouille" producer Brad Lewis is directing "Cars 2" and this will be his Pixar-directing debut. The main cast of the original are set to return, but no word yet on who's going to voice Finn McMissile. Can we suggest Daniel Craig? Or Roger Moore? Or Sean Connery? Or Timothy Dalton? Yeah, former Bonds!

Just call his character Pricklepants, Mr. Pricklepants.
The former 007 star will be voicing the role of Mr. Pricklepants in the upcoming Disney/Pixar threequel "Toy Story 3!"
The character is a hedgehog toy with acting aspirations! Sounds fun! Now, if they let Dalton keep his British accent, he will be the first Brit to be featured in the "Toy Story" franchise, notwithstanding Andi Peters' cameo in "Toy Story 2."
"Toy Story 3" tells the story of Andy, who's now college-bound, and of course, his old toys have been put away in a safe place up in the attic. Woody (Tom Hanks) is saved though, Andy decides to take the toy with him to college. But eventually, the other toys are sent to a daycare center, where they are abused by the little kids.
It's now up to Woody and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) to save the day and find a new, safe haven for the toys.
"Toy Story 3" comes out June 18 of next year, and here's the complete list of voice actors:
Tom Hanks -- Woody (voice)
Michael Keaton -- Ken (voice)
Joan Cusack -- Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl (voice)
Tim Allen -- Buzz Lightyear (voice)
John Ratzenberger -- Hamm the Piggy Bank (voice)
Wallace Shawn -- Rex the Green Dinosaur (voice)
Ned Beatty -- Lotso (voice)
Jodi Benson -- Barbie (voice)
Don Rickles -- Mr. Potato Head (voice)
Estelle Harris -- Mrs. Potato Head (voice)

John Lasseter, Academy Award-winning animator, director, and the chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, has announced a fresh, new take on A.A. Milne's children's classic "Winnie the Pooh." The film will be based on five of the author's original stories.
It has been 35 years since Disney produced a feature film starring "Winnie the Pooh" characters, so this is a welcomed treat!
Lasseter, presenting at London's Leicester Square about the future of Disney/Pixar animation, showed some old clips of "Winnie the Pooh" and revealed that the new film will stick to the classic look with a contemporary feel.
Steve Anderson and Don Hall are going to direct and all the filmmakers involved with the film vowed to honor Milne's vision about the world of the Hundred Acre Wood. This new film, Lasseter said, will not be just for kids but for the entire family.
The best part? Burny Mattinson, the animator of the original "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree" featurette in 1964, will serve as lead story artist on the new project.
You'll be able to see the brand new "Winnie the Pooh" film Spring of 2011.

Just last January, Warner Bros. and Mattel announced that they're moving forward with a live-action reinvention of "Master of the Universe." (see full story of the announcement here)
Producer Joel Silver ("Matrix" films) has been developing this film since 2007 and hired "Kung Fu Panda" director John Stevenson to helm.
Well, Warner Bros and Silver have parted with Mattel on the project. They didn't see eye to eye over the direction of the production and made mutual decision to part ways.
Stevenson will remain as director, but Silver is out as producer since he's exclusive to WB. Mattel is currently looking to set up the property elsewhere. I suspect it's going to Paramount. The studio believes in the power of Greyskull
