"Puss in Boots" Claws its Way to No. 1 with $34M!

Trick or treaters, snowstorm in the east, and Halloween be damned, "Puss in Boots" emerged victorious at the box-office against all odds. The DreamWorks 3D flick proved that this kitty has legs beyond the "Shrek" franchise.

Starring Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, and Zach Galifianakis, "Puss in Boots" claimed the top spot with $34 million. The Paramount-distributed film enjoyed huge support from family audiences as well as the Hispanic crowd which made 35 percent of its audience.

Paramount also has the No. 2 movie of the Halloween weekend, the creepy "Paranormal Activity" which made $18.5 million. So far, the third installment of the popular horror franchise has sold $81.3 million worth of box-office tickets.

Both Justin Timberlake and Johnny Depp were no match to the power of Puss! "In Time" starring Timberlake about the scarcity of time, debuted at No. 3 with $12 million while "The Rum Diary" featuring Depp entered at No. 5 with $5 million, a low debut for a movie with a $50 million budget.

It is indeed a great weekend for Paramount. Its remake of "Footloose" took the No. 4 spot with $5.4 million. Take that Johnny Depp!

Here's the Top 10 Box-Office Films for Halloween weekend 2011:

1. "Puss in Boots," $34 million

Everything You Wanted to Know About "Paranormal Activity 3!" Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman Talk About the Trailer, the "Fan Cam," and the Possible Sequel!

I love the “Paranormal Activity” franchise. The first one intrigued me, the second one scared me, and the third made me believe in the potency of the franchise. So I was happy as a clam to interview the directors of the third installment, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

("Paranormal Activity 3" Movie Review)

One of the biggest questions the fans were asking was – how come there were some scenes shown in the trailer that were not shown on the final cut?

But we’ll get to that in a minute.

For now, let’s congratulate Joost and Schulman for keeping the “Paramount Activity” tradition of no gore, just good old-fashioned scares alive!

Oh yeah, and let’s congratulate them too for having the biggest box-office opening for a horror film ever, and for the biggest opening of any film in October!

In this interview, we talked about:

*** What spooked them to direct “Paranormal Activity 3?”
*** Scary movies versus Violent movies
*** The origin of the “fan cam”
*** And the biggie – how come some scenes were not shown in the final cut? Are we going to find some footage in the DVD and Blu-Ray?
*** Is there going to be “PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4?”

I really wanted to ask them about that hidden scene they’re talking about in the movie. Did you guys catch that?

Also, I want them to give Katie Featherston a bigger role in the fourth film!

Just sayin…

Antonio Banderas & Salma Hayek Interview for "Puss in Boots!" What What I Told Banderas in the End!

I love meeting Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek! Together! I've always believed that the couple has great chemistry on and off screen, and it was a blessing witnessing it right before my very eyes. Banderas returns to his trademark role, and Hayek tries her hands in animated work for the very first time. And their magic was evident on-screen as Puss and Kitty Softpaws duel, fall in love, and fight bad guys in the surefire box-office hit, "Puss in Boots."

In this interview, we talked about:

*** Inhabiting the Puss in Boots role again for Banderas
*** Salma's foray into the animated world -- was it all worth it?
*** Does her daughter love her character Kitty Softpaws?
*** Their chemistry and how it helped their partnership on and off-screen
*** Their dreams as actors back when they were both beginning
*** My finale for Mister Antonio, I told him, "Mi Amor, Senor Antonio!" Watch his reaction!

"Puss in Boots" arrives Friday, Oct. 28th, HAVE FUN!
