Jessica Chastain to Star as Princess Di!

The current Hollywood "It" girl, Jessica Chastain, is set to star as the beloved Princess Di in the film "Caught in Flight" according to Thompson on Hollywood.

Chastain, who's been fantastic in all the films she starred in this year including "The Debt," "The Help," and "The Tree of Life," will play the Princess of Wales in the controversial story about a super-secret affair! Gasp!

Jessica Chastain Interview for "The Debt"

German director Oliver Hirschbiegel is set to helm and the storyline involves the real-life affair between the late princess and heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Kahn. He was supposed to be the love of her life. Awwww.

The film is set to go into pre-production in March 2012 for Ecosse Films, the company who gave us "Nowhere Boy" and "Mrs. Brown." All those brilliantly made biopics! "Caught in Flight" will be shot in Pakistan, Angola, the South of France, and Paris with a budget of $15 million.

The script written by "The Libertine's" Steven Jeffreys will cast Princess Di as a tormented person who stalked the heart surgeon. Wow! Here's more info on the plot from Thompson on Hollywood:

The princess met Dr. Hasnat at the Royal Brompton Hospital in 1995 when she was visiting a friend who was recovering from heart surgery. The couple pursued a quiet two-year affair. Dr. Kahn, who she named “Mr. Wonderful,” maintained an eleven-year silence over the relationship, until he spoke The Telegraph about the affair in 2008. In the article, the relationship is described as being so serious that Diana was thinking of converting to Islam. She wore traditional dress to meet his family on a visit to Pakistan. “The Khans are deeply religious,” the newspaper reported, and “his wall-hangings include a painting that has an inscription of verses from the Koran.” Dr Khan left Britain in 2007. Diana is said to have been heartbroken that he wanted to end the relationship.

I regard Chastain as a fantastic actress so I have no doubt that she will be able to pull this off -- a multifaceted take on the Princess of Wales, warts and all!

From "Captain America" to "Captain Nemo," Hayley Atwell Joins Underwater Adventure

The fantastic Hayley Atwell joining "The Return of Captain Nemo" is certainly good news, but what's surprising and endearing, is that the sequel to "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" will have a price tag of $10 million! Yup, that's $10 million! This one is an indie version but will be shot ala "300" entirely onstage and using CGI. If director Pearry Teo succeeds, this will be ultra-cool! Once upon a time, David Fincher was going to make his version of the sequel, but Disney balked at the $150 million budget! Should Disney embrace this indie vision?

David Morissey (BBC's "Red Riding") will star as Atwell's character's uncle, the chief adviser to President Ulysses S. Grant, and Atwell will play Sara. According to Deadline, Sara "frees Nemo from prison to try and discover why mysterious 'sea monsters' are sinking ships up and down the Atlantic Coast." Hugh Bonneville ("Downtown Abbey") will star as Nemo.

Amy Krell will be producing and the film will shoot in Romania.

Benicio Del Toro to be the New "Star Trek" Big Bad?

J.J. Abrams has chosen his new villain for the sequel to the 2009 critical and commercial success, "Star Trek." Variety told us that it's no other than Mr. Wolfman himself, Benicio Del Toro!

Fantastic!

Del Toro has always been a good actor ("Wolfman" notwithstanding), although we don't know yet what role he's going to play and there's no deal yet! But insiders are saying, it will be signed any minute now!

Abrams will be directing from a script penned by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof. Production is set to star in early 2012.

"Puss in Boots" Helps Boost DreamWorks Animation Stocks!

Thanks to our favorite feline, DreamWorks Animation's shares soared 12 percent because of its stellar second-week performance!

Voiced by Antonio Banderas and distributed by Paramount Pictures, "Puss in Boots" held steady at No. 1 with a very little dip from its opening box-office total of $34.1 million. Last weekend, the fantastic film sold a total of $32.1 million tickets and pounced on "Tower Heist" and "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas!"

That left "Tower Heist" with an underwhelming performance of $25.1 million, and with a budget of $85 million, Universal has a looooong way to go to reclaim its budget and gasp, make profit! I did enjoy Eddie Murphy's performance though, he's back to being the Eddie Murphy we know and love, not the cute and cuddly Eddie Murphy.

Meanwhile, "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas" opened at No. 3 with $13.1 million, a few dollars shy of its $14.9 million opening for the previous sequel, "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay."

The good news for the film's distributor, Warner Bros., "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas" cost only $20 million to produce so the studio will see some profits very soon! Plus, 95% of the revenues came from 3D screenings of the film bucking down the recent downturn of three-dimensional produced films. Apparently, many folks want to get high by seeing 3D-induced pot smoke! :happy

But the good news of the weekend belonged to Paramount and "Puss in Boots." When the film opened last week at just (I know right? Just!) $34 million, many insiders were quick to dismiss the power of the Puss! But last weekend, everyone breath a sigh of relief and hailed the magical Puss as Tinseltown's hero!

But wait, there's more! "Puss in Boots" has already made a total of $115 million worldwide, so...meow!
